Before we move on to the next festival, I want to encourage you to use your voice in next week's primary elections. While we are cultivating community, connecting families and resources, and establishing thriving families in New Mexico, we must remember our responsibility to give biblical values a voice in our elections.
Unfortunately, the New Mexico Supreme Court recently ruled that the two election laws are 'exempt' from the referendum process and affirmed that the NM Secretary of State can exempt other laws from a referendum process if they relate to public peace, health, or safety. The SOS has used that authority to designate all six laws as exempt from the referendum process.
For centuries, our elected leadership has taken oaths to defend the constitution and the rights enshrined therein and the guarantee of every American’s freedom. Yet today, in New Mexico, our highest form of leadership has clearly revealed a blatant disregard for those very freedoms and for the constitution she swore to defend.
