Everything we do at NM FAM is rooted in one clear vision: to see a New Mexico where God is honored, life is cherished, families thrive, and religious freedom flourishes. These are not just inspiring words—they are the foundations of a flourishing society. When life is valued, when families are strong, when people are free to worship, and when God is acknowledged as sovereign, our state has hope for renewal.
It’s in Our History
On January 15, 1912, our state’s first governor, William McDonald, concluded his inaugural address with these words:
“And now, trusting the Power that controls the destinies of men and nations… I shall take up the work that with the blessing of the Almighty, I trust may rebound to the benefit of our new state and to the good of the whole people.”
From our nation’s founding to our state’s beginning, there was a common recognition: God’s authority and blessing are essential for the success of both people and government. Our forefathers knew this truth—and they built upon it.
But It’s Been Lost
Sadly, New Mexico has strayed from that foundation. Leaders are too often driven by self-interest, power, or ideology rather than by faith, humility, and truth. The results speak for themselves: rising crime, failing schools, families in crisis, and a state that has become known for protecting abortion rather than protecting life. We cannot ignore that our struggles are tied to our abandonment of God-honoring principles.
Imagine the Alternative
But what if it could change? Imagine leaders motivated by truth, families strengthened by faith, schools that partner with parents, and communities where every person is valued. Imagine a New Mexico that returns to God’s design—where life is seen as sacred, families are upheld as the cornerstone of society, and religious freedom is protected for all.
That’s the vision of NM FAM. We are committed to honoring God by exercising our responsibility to “stand firm and take action” (Daniel 11:32). We call this unleashing citizenship—equipping and mobilizing people of faith to engage the culture and government with courage and conviction.
This is more than a dream. It’s a movement.
Are you in? Together, we can see a New Mexico where God is honored, life is cherished, families thrive, and religious freedom flourishes.
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” –Psalm 139:13-14
At NM FAM, we believe every life holds immeasurable worth because every life is a gift from God. From the moment of fertilization to the final breath, life carries dignity, purpose, and value that no government or culture has the authority to diminish.
Sadly, New Mexico has embraced a culture that does just the opposite. Our state has some of the weakest protections for the preborn in the nation—allowing abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, even up to the day of birth. Cities like Albuquerque have gained the tragic reputation of being the “Late-Term Abortion Capital of the Country,” drawing women from across the nation for procedures illegal in their home states. When Texas passed its Heartbeat Act, New Mexico leaders responded not with compassion for mothers and children, but with celebration of abortion tourism and fundraising to expand it.
This mentality echoes the shocking admission of abortionist Curtis Boyd, who leads the nation’s largest late-term abortion facility right here in New Mexico: “Am I killing? Yes, I am. I know that.” The reality is undeniable—abortion ends a human life. Even those outside the church can see this truth. As comedian Bill Maher admitted, “You don’t have to be religious to be against abortion… at some point, it is kind of wrong to kill it.”
But the culture of death in New Mexico doesn’t end with abortion. It also impacts the vulnerable at the other end of life—those with disabilities, terminal diagnoses, and life-threatening conditions—pressuring them toward death rather than supporting them with care and dignity.
We believe New Mexico can and must do better. Every person, regardless of age, ability, or circumstance, has been created in the image of God as a priceless being with inherent dignity and rights—chief among them, the right to live.
Our vision is a New Mexico where life is truly cherished. As Daniel 11:32 reminds us, “…the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action.” It is not enough to believe in the value of life—we must act to protect it. At NM FAM, we call this “unleashing citizenship,” and we invite you to join us in unleashing a culture of life across our state.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named…” –Ephesians 3:14-15
At NM FAM, we believe that family is God’s timeless design for human flourishing. It is within the family that values are first planted, nurtured, and passed down through generations. Families are where children learn identity, responsibility, and love. They are where faith is modeled, where the vulnerable are cared for, and where honor extends from the youngest child to the oldest grandparent. Simply put, family is where values take root.
When families thrive, communities thrive. And when communities thrive, states and nations thrive. But in New Mexico, families are under attack—both by government systems that penalize marriage and by policies that undermine the rights of parents to raise their children according to their values.
Government dependency programs have created cycles that weaken the traditional family unit, discouraging marriage and incentivizing brokenness. Even more concerning, parents are increasingly being pushed aside in decisions that belong to them—especially in education and healthcare. From classroom lessons that hide or distort truth, to school policies that attempt to cut parents out of critical conversations about their children’s identity, wellbeing, and future, New Mexico is witnessing a dangerous trend: government intrusion into the sacred trust of parenthood.
We believe parents—not the state—are the primary authority and protectors of their children. Strong families are not only the cornerstone of society, they also serve as a vital check on the reach of government. Thriving families lessen the need for state intervention and empower citizens to live with dignity, responsibility, and freedom.
That’s why NM FAM is committed to advancing policies that strengthen, not weaken, the family. We work to:
Some say, “It takes a village.” At NM FAM, we believe, “It takes a family.”
Our vision is a New Mexico where families are honored and strengthened, and where the values rooted at home shape a healthier, freer future for our state.
“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge.” –Acts 4:19
Religious freedom is not just a constitutional protection—it is a God-given right that undergirds every other liberty. The First Amendment affirms our ability to live out our deepest convictions, to honor God, and to order our lives, families, and communities according to faith. Simply put, a free people must be free to worship.
But here in New Mexico, this freedom is under fire. One of the most notable examples came in 2013, when Albuquerque photographer Elaine Huguenin was punished for declining to participate in a same-sex ceremony that conflicted with her deeply held beliefs about marriage. Even though the couple easily found another photographer, the case was taken to the New Mexico Supreme Court. The Court ruled against Elaine, with Justice Richard Bosson chillingly stating that people of faith must be “compelled by law to compromise the very religious beliefs that inspire their lives”—calling it “the price of citizenship.”
That is not the vision of freedom our founders fought to secure. And it is not the vision of freedom we accept for New Mexico. The New Mexico Religious Freedom Restoration Act clearly states that government has no authority to burden a person’s free exercise of religion. Yet, when the courts punish citizens for simply living according to their faith, the door is opened to a future where churches, families, businesses, and ministries alike may be forced to violate their conscience or close their doors.
At NM FAM, we believe protecting religious freedom means more than defending Sunday morning worship services—it means safeguarding the right to live out faith every day of the week. This includes:
Our vision is a New Mexico where God is honored and religious freedom flourishes—a state where no one is forced to choose between faith and citizenship. Together, let us reject the false notion that compromise of conscience is “the price of citizenship,” and instead unleash a culture where freedom of belief safeguards freedom for all.
